The problem with working the name of a console into the title of a game exclusive to said console is that it becomes pretty awkward when you suddenly decide to release it on other platforms.
Ubisoft’s ZombiU, as with most games released on the launch of the Wii U in 2012, decided to include the capital “U” in its title. And it did that because…reasons? I mean, it wasn’t the Wii U iteration of a previous game, like Super Mario Bros U. Was “Zombi” just too silly a title for a horror/survival first-person-shooter?
Oh, the upcoming PS4, Xbox One and PC versions of the game are called Zombi… Well, then I have no explanation.
Here’s the trailer announcing the release date as August 18:
I’m actually interested to check this out, as I missed the original game on the Wii U. It got a Metacritic average of 77 and other reviewers described it as a singleplayer Day Z with a Dark Souls-esque respawn system, which to me sounds like something worth looking at. It’s also set in London, so there’s awesome Buckingham Palace guard zombies, which is awesome.
