EA and developers DICE announced overnight that the public beta for Star Wars Battlefront will begin on October 8 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. If, like me, you were saddened to miss out on the closed alpha and thus see if this is the game we’re looking for (not even sorry), you will soon get your chance!
The beta will feature Walker Assault mode on Hoth, a Tatooine co-op mission and a map playable in the recently revealed Drop Zone mode. But more importantly, players will be able to play as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, if only for short stretches through the game’s “Hero System”.
So if you have any father/son disputes you want to settle, there really is no better way.
The beta is only running until October 12, and no word from EA or DICE on whether pre-loading will be available, so knowing Australian internet we probably won’t get the game loaded, installed and playing on a server until it’s almost over.
On the plus side, the final game will have dedicated servers which is good. So there’s that.
