I knew it was too good to be true. The Last Guardian has been in development for so damn long now that even when they announced its October release date at E3 in June I said to myself I wouldn’t believe it until the game was actually in my hands.
Well, my and many others’ hands shall be waiting a little bit longer, as overnight Playstation president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida announced the PS4 exclusive has been delayed worldwide until December 6 (December 7 in Australia/Europe, 9 in UK/Ireland).
In a post on the Playstation Blog, Yoshida said as the team approached their launch deadlines, a higher amount of bugs than expected led them to make the “tough decision” to delay the game and give it a little extra polish.
“Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long,” he said.
“A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.”
Yoshida signed off saying they “look forward to revealing new content towards the launch.”
Ah well, we’ve already waiting some 10 years for the follow up to Fumito Ueda’s masterpiece Shadow of the Colossus, what’s another month and a bit…
