E3 2017 has well and truly kicked off with EA’s press conference earlier this morning. Of course, we were still fast asleep at 5am, but that doesn’t mean we’re not across it all! Here are the highlights from EA’s conference.
BioWare announce a new IP
The RPG giants revealed a teaser trailer for a new sci-fi/fantasy game called Anthem. The trailer has some serious Game of Thrones vibes with a wall protecting a group of humans from giant monsters beyond. Anthem will be developed by BioWare Edmonton, the studio best known for Knights of the Old Republic. Colour us intrigued.
Break out of prison in A Way Out
A co-op game where you have to break out of prison. A pretty impressive premise from the team behind indie hit Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The game has a pretty nifty teaser and looks like it could be a great multiplayer adventure experience. A Way Out is slated for a 2018 release.
Star Wars Battlefront II is shaping up nicely
Battlefront 4, but for some reason called Battlefront II is looking pretty damn good at this stage. The 2015 franchise reboot was a somewhat underwhelming experience with no campaign and a limited multiplayer experience due to extensive DLC, but the follow up looks like it’s learned from DICE’s mistakes. A gameplay trailer teases space combat, multiple infantry classes and a whole load of iconic characters. The icing on the cake is the announcement that there will be no DLC. We’ll hold our breath on that one, but it sounds pretty good to us.
Here’s the official trailer:
And here’s some multiplayer gameplay from Youtuber jackfrags:
EA’s long list of sports titles had a bunch of reveals, including a follow up for FIFA‘s The Journey and a similar story mode coming to Madden 18. Some of the more intriguing news was to do with the Switch version of FIFA 18, which will run on a different engine and not feature the story mode at all. However it is being designed solely for the system, so it could still be a winner.
Here’s the teaser for the follow up to Alex Hunter’s story in FIFA 18, featuring a few familiar faces:
Battlefield 1 will be getting new maps
Battlefront 1 will be getting eight new maps, some set at nighttime. Launching this September is the Russian themed In the Name of the Tsar expansion, which considering that period of history, is something that wouldn’t be said all that much longer.
