In Memoriam: Bioshock Infinite

– Tom Heath If you’re a regular reader of our In Memoriam articles, you’d know from previous entries that they require spoiler warnings. We discuss the deaths of characters and discussing the deaths of characters is pretty much the very definition of a spoiler. To honour the fallen of Bioshock Infinite, I am going to have to put the mother of all spoiler warnings up here. If you ...[Read More]

Buffering: Crazy Battlefield 4 kill makes me way too proud of myself

– Tom Heath All right gang, welcome to Buffering, where we upload any of our own gameplay clips for your enjoyment. Our première video comes from a game I am horrendously bad at: Battlefield 4. So, I was playing with my Unnatural Selection podcast co-hosts Adam and Jorge, who are both Battlefield veterans (AKA, they’re actually good). I’d hopped on Adam’s quad-bike and we w...[Read More]

Trailers that took over my life

– Tom Heath With San Diego Comic-Con happening over the weekend, we’ve been introduced to a whole host of trailers for upcoming films and TV shows. Most of them are shitty, low quality phone recordings from within the audience that make me want to gouge out my own eyes and ears, but nonetheless I want to see that first footage of Jared Leto’s Joker damn it! But one trailer stuck ...[Read More]

Nintendo president dies at 55

– Tom Heath News broke this morning that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has died at the age of 55. A short statement said Iwata passed away on July 11 due to a “bile duct growth”. Iwata began working for Nintendo in the 1980s, before being appointed director in 2000 and president in 2002. During his time as president, he oversaw the release of the GameCube, DS, Wii, 3DS and Wii ...[Read More]

Black Ops III and fridges: Together at last

– Tom Heath Do you know what goes really well with gaming? If you answered a fridge, well done, you’re equally as weird as the executives over at Activision. If you didn’t already read the headline, today it was revealed that the Call of Duty Black Ops III Juggernog Edition features a Juggernog mini-Fridge. Apart from a mini-fridge the Juggernog Edition comes with The Giant Zombi...[Read More]

Batgirl DLC for Arkham Knight trailer released, Killing Joke vibes aplenty

– Tom Heath Warner Bros have released a trailer for next week’s Batgirl DLC for Arkham Knight, titled “A Matter of Family” and developed by Arkham Origins makers Warner Bros Montreal. The first story-based DLC for the Arkham Knight‘s season pass, the chapter follows Barbara Gordon as Batgirl in a pre-Arkham Asylum adventure to rescue her father from the clutches of Jo...[Read More]

Hello Games demonstrates No Mans Sky, gets repeatedly harassed by goat

– Tom Heath As it is the feature game for IGN’s July edition of IGN First, we can expect to learn a lot more about Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky over the next month. A big steaming pile of that learning has just hit the interwebs in the form of an 18 minute gameplay demonstration with Hello Games founder, and regular demonstrator, Sean Murray. And if any of you were concerned a...[Read More]

In Memoriam: Mass Effect

– Tom Heath Whereas our previous In Memoriam articles have focused on the unavoidable deaths of characters from beloved video games, today we shall be paying tribute to one that was completely non-compulsory, and was twice as heartbreaking. The game is Mass Effect, RPG maker Bioware’s sci-fi dating simulator that also happened to have a kick-ass, choice driven narrative and, as such, I...[Read More]

Horizon Zero Dawn to be an open world RPG, says Guerrilla Games

– Tom Heath Horizon Zero Dawn made quite the impression during Sony’s E3 presentation last month, being a new IP from long time Playstation developer Guerrilla Games. Their first non-Killzone game in a long time, the pre-historic themed, post apocalyptic, robot dinosaur hunting game looks like quite a shift from their comfort zone. Few details were given as to the specifics of the game...[Read More]

What I want from The Last of Us 2

– Tom Heath It is no secret to anyone who knows me that I consider Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us to be a masterpiece of interactive storytelling. It was one of the first video games I ever publicly reviewed. Whenever I am asked what I think the best game of the past decade is, The Last of Us is one of the first games I consider. But a potential sequel to the game has been offhandedly me...[Read More]

Uncharted 4’s extended gameplay trailer released, ups it to 11

– Tom Heath Despite a slight technical hitch during its E3 presentation this year, a hitch that some might argue actually made the game look better given it proved someone was actually PLAYING the demo, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was a highlight of the Sony conference. It featured ridiculous graphics (that hopefully make it to the retail version, we’ve been burned before),  the s...[Read More]

Allison Road, spiritual successor for P.T.: pants will be shat

– Tom Heath I, like many others, was devastated earlier this year when the Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro directed horror game Silent Hills was cancelled, especially after playing its phenomenal playable teaser, P.T., on PS4. The mind bending horror experience set in a suburban household was unlike anything I had ever experienced, featuring no “game” like features such as ob...[Read More]
