Crash Bandicoot cartoon uncovered; beware: it’s catchy

– Tom Heath

Crash Bandicoot was my very first Playstation game way back when I was around six years old. That wacky children’s adventure full of science puns and very loose Australia references was the first Playstation game from Naughty Dog, who you may recall has gone on to create Playstation exclusives like the Uncharted franchise and The Last of Us.

So yeah, pretty humble beginnings for them.

“It’s cool guys, I always believed in you!”

Anyway, Crash Bandicoot was originally developed in conjunction with Universal Interactive Studios for the then unannounced Playstation 1. Over the weekend, one of the producers of the game, David Siller, posted an early Crash Bandicoot cartoon animation that was later scrapped.

Siller said the video was “based on ideas for where we were going with [the] IP at the time,” but it was possibly a little too ambitious and didn’t fit in with Sony’s “3D agenda”.

So there you go, Crash Bandicoot could have also worked as an afternoon kids cartoon series. I know I’m going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day…

Tom can totally recite the sound Aku Aku makes when you collect him in Crash Bandicoot. Can you? Give it your best shot in a Tweet to Tom: @tomdheath. Best spelling earns his admiration.
