In keeping with EA Sports’ announcement that the upcoming FIFA 16 will be the first game in the series to feature female players, the publisher has announced which female players will be joining Argentina’s Lionel Messi on the North American and Canadian covers of the game.
Alex Morgan, the US Women’s National Team forward, and Christine Sinclair, Canadian Women’s National Team captain, will appear on their respective nation’s covers, and both are pulling faces that are much less silly than Messi’s expression.
Morgan and Sinclair join Steph Cately, who two weeks ago was announced to be the Australian FIFA 16 female cover player.
Despite FIFA’s latest strife involving corruption allegations for many of its board members, it is great to see the games start to feature the women’s league. Everyone knows I’m completely in the dark when it comes to FIFA, and most sports mind you, but any positive recognition of women in sport is a good thing in my book.
FIFA 16 is launching September 24 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
