The trailers you have to see from Gamescom

Feature

– Tom Heath

I love trailers. We know this. And during events such as E3 and Gamescom there are often so many new trailers it’s hard to see all the great ones.

So here I am, telling you the ones I think you should have seen, aside from the ones we’ve already mentioned. Why? Because they’re awesome and SHUT UP, THAT’S WHY.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Somehow, despite showing off hours of gameplay footage as well as several vague story trailers, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain still doesn’t seem to have given away everything it has to offer. I still don’t have a full grasp of what is going to happen in the story, and thought I’d seen at least a small taste of all the tools/strategies at Snake’s disposal.

Oh boy, was I wrong. In the Gamescom 2015 presentation, which runs for a good 30 minutes but is totally worth it, we get a good look at how customising your Mother Base HQ will affect the game, as well as what it will be like to have your unique home invaded. Spoiler alert: it looks rad.

Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront just won the Best Game of Gamescom award, and with this trailer showcasing the fighter squadron mode it is easy to see why. Now, I’m shocking at flying jets in Battlefield 4, also developed by DICE, but I’m still super keen to fly around in the Millennium Falcon.

My favourite part? When Red Leader says “OK Red Squadron, stay in attack formation,” and the player X-Wing immediately breaks formation. Classic Red Squadron.

Scalebound

When originally announced, Scalebound didn’t really make any waves. Do you even remember the reveal? I sure don’t, probably because I wasn’t terribly sure on what kind of game it was. Its Gamescom trailer shows off some gameplay, and its looking to be a combination of Devil May Cry swordplay/wise cracking jerk protagonist, Horizon: Zero Dawn sci-fi medieval aesthetics and a Dark Souls-esque co-op summoning system.

Minds may not be blown yet, but it’s one of the more interesting pieces I saw over the past week.

Just Cause 3

Look, we all know about Just Cause 3, but I had to finish on this little highlight trailer because any sizzle reel of the craziness that we’ll be unleashing come December is worth a mention.

I mean seriously, look at all that. Grapple-hooking into gull-suit flying away from an exploding petrol station is one of the coolest things I’ve seen with my eyes.
