Pre-ordering is out of control, seriously, we’re at the point where we need an after school special on this shit. Today it was announced that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will have the most insane pre-order system known to man. Essentially it runs off of a premise in which the amount of pre-order copies sold dictates the content that will be included with the game. Don’t believe me? Watch this:
In case you didn’t have time to watch that, it explains the “augment your pre-order” system, which will unlock tiers of content based on the number of pre-orders sold. Each tier has different content selections, with the final tier moving the game’s release date forward by four days.
It’s a sad day for gaming when an official site reads “pre-order today to help unlock tiers and choose your own rewards, earn up to 4 rewards + early release of the game.” This isn’t Kickstarter…. seriously Square Enix/Eidos Montreal, just back yourselves and make a good game, don’t worry about money grabbing marketing campaigns.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is set for release on February 23 2016…. or February 19 2016, depending on how hungry for trivial consumer incentives people are.
