Attack on Titan took the anime world by storm in 2013 upon its release; it began as a Japanese manga series in 2009 but gained fame and a huge boost in the series’ popularity as word spread of this dark, post-apocalyptic masterpiece, quickly becoming a commercial success and selling over 50 million copies worldwide.
Koei Tecmo, the company behind the ground-breakingly intellectual (cough) Dead or Alive franchise and the popular Dynasty Warriors, is bringing Attack on Titan to life… in a video game, of course. There have been four video game adaptations of the manga/anime thus far, but only for the Nintendo 3DS and mobile.
Tecmo’s title will be the first time consoles see an Attack on Titan game, and while we don’t know much about it at this point, we got a glimpse of what awaits us in the form of an original teaser trailer (which offered a blink-and-you-miss-it look at animation and a lot of title cards), but a more recent trailer offers up a bit more to chew on. You can check it out below:
Reminiscient of the Catherine artstyle and design choice, it looks every bit as brutal and full-on as the anime, promising a smooth, action-packed ride for fans.
Getting the motion right in this game is super important, given that the anime puts a lot of emphasis on fluidity and quickness in the act of titan slaying itself.
Koei Tecmo’s Attack on Titan will be released on PlayStation consoles only – PS3, PS4 and the Vita, and (sadly) won’t be released in the western stores until sometime in 2016.
