Yesterday, a static Ubisoft live stream image kicked the internet into gear predicting the announcement of Far Cry Primal, a seemingly prehistoric entry into the series. Well, we were all right on the money, as today Ubisoft have revealed the début trailer, release date and details of the game. Aren’t we a spoiled bunch.
Sadly it doesn’t seem like any of Charlie’s ideas regarding the inclusion of velociraptors or time travel (the best plot device EVER) have been taken on board. I guess that’s OK, since the other ideas being put forward are looking good.
The Far Cry series, particularly 3 and 4, has been very focused on hunting but the kind of hunting involving high powered rifles, compound bows and, when you get fed up with using finesse, rocket launchers. Far Cry Primal, being set in the stone age, seems to be making an effort to simulate tactical hunting from a weakened perspective, using fire, spears and a team of Neanderthals to slaughter prey.
It will be interesting to see where Far Cry Primal goes narratively, given the whole prehistoric setting. The game’s official site describes the story vaguely, saying: “As the last survivor of your hunting group, you will learn to craft a deadly arsenal, fend off fierce predators, and outsmart enemy tribes to conquer the land of Oros and become the Apex Predator.” We glimpsed an enemy tribe at the end of the trailer, but the trailer also demonstrated how the characters speak in an unknown language so the other methods through which the developers will convey the story will be something to look forward to.
And that reminds me, I totally called it:
Seriously, really hoping for subtitled neanderthal language… https://t.co/9k5fcUQxhn

The final piece of info from Ubisoft was the release date of 23 February 2016 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. I guess until then I can grunt incomprehensibly and throw rubber spears at Charlie’s dogs to get my hunting fix.
