Eli Roth directed a Dark Souls III trailer and it’s pretty weird

Eli Roth, known for his gruesome horror flicks such as Hostel, has directed an animated trailer for the upcoming Dark Souls III titled “The Witches”. In it, a knight traversing a dank, death filled castle comes across three witches who offer him a cup of the ominous looking potion they are brewing.

As for what follows after that, I have absolutely no idea. But rest assured it is weird and vague as one would expect from a Souls game, and it’s also as gory and visceral as one would expect from a director like Eli Roth.

Here it is, prepare to be disturbed:

Perhaps that creature is what decimated the world prior to the beginning of Dark Souls III? I look forward to seeing the hardcore fans pick the game apart to find out.

The team also released a making-of featurette:

Game trailers directed by big Hollywood names are nothing new, but often can be pretty fun. A personal favourite of mine is SAW/The Conjuring director James Wan’s trailer for 2008’s sci-fi horror Dead Space. Guy Ritchie also created the “Surprise” trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 featuring a whole bunch of famous actors and internet personalities trolling each other.

Dark Souls III is set to release on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on April 12 in Australia, but is already available in Japan.
