The Gears of War games have always had great cinematic trailers. Most feature the muscle clad COG soldiers doing some cool sci-fi testosterone things whilst accompanied by music that brings all the feels.
I still remember the teaser for Gears of War 2, it nearly brought me to tears when it came out. Look at this emotional shit, just look at it:
That choice of music just completely disarms you. Look at the characters and the gameplay, and then listen to the song, it doesn’t fit. You have the bro-est dudes ever accompanied by an emotionally rich band like DeVotchKa. It’s great.
Well the new trailer for Gears of War 4 doesn’t disappoint in this regard. It features a familiar song that is pretty much pop culture cat nip at the moment:
Hello darkness my old friend indeed. The trailer fleshes out the new protagonist, Marcus Fenix’s son, JD, as we see him go from the child of a revered war hero, to a soldier battling an unknown enemy in total chaos.
This did what trailers ought to. I’m intrigued as fuck about this game now. Read my hopes and dreams for Gears of War 4 here and let us know what you thought of the trailer in the comments.
