Have you ever wanted to play a game within a game? Clique is a game created by DeadArtGames that is just that. We spoke to creator Neil Jones, who told us all about his game and plans for the future.
“Clique is a game where Players start off as a girl’s in-game avatar and play out the story of how he (The Avatar) is lost in his world. Which is full of characters that don’t want to have anything to do with him and even harass him at some points. After completing the first level the camera pulls back to reveals players are actually in control of a young girl that is playing the game.
Players find out more of her story, which is how she enjoys being in her game world a lot more then dealing with real life. Her story is kinda like if the main character from Life is Strange was a hard core gamer. Every level the girl takes a break from her game and interacts with her environment dealing with problems before going back to her game.”
Clique is funded and publicised through KickStarter. Crowdfunding has become an increasingly popular way to fund games because it means devs can directly communicate with their audience, and allows those who back the project to receive rewards, such as getting the game early.
“This isn’t really my first game I’ve worked on a few small teams but this is definitely a new experience for me. We spent a lot of time working on our KickStarter, about three months before we even sent it to KickStarter for approval. Much of that time was spent making sure we could get our backers everything we promised in a timely fashion, as well as getting enough content made for the KickStarter itself”.
“When we meet our KickStarter goal we are going to finish this game and get it out to the world then move on to the next one. We don’t know what that game will be or if it will be completely different form this one. We will never make the same kinda game over and over again. There are many people that make the same shooters and platforms every few years and we aren’t those people. No one is really trying to do anything really different outside of VR and that needs to change, and we want to be the ones to change it”
