You’d better go out and get some laxatives to take care of those stomach gurgles, because Outlast 2 won’t be coming anytime soon to alleviate your colon.
In a post on the game’s Facebook page, developer Red Barrels confirmed they were delaying the game until Q1 2017. It’s a classic case of “it’ll be ready when it’s done”, with the developer saying they want to deliver “the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible,” so the extra time is to “make sure [their] vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve.”
“This is not the type of news we ever want to deliver, but we are so fully committed to the world we’ve built and to our awesome community that we could not, in good conscience, release a game who’s [sic] limits haven’t been tested to the extreme,” they said.
Well, that’s a bummer. I was looking forward to making fellow editor Charlie play through this in a video as penance for making fun of my gasps while playing the Resident Evil VII demo. We could all have enjoyed watching him squeal, but I guess it was not to be, at least until early next year.
You can check out some gameplay of Outlast 2 from earlier in the year here. Some freaky shit, to say the least!
