Seven years after the release of the retro-styled Mega Man X in 2010, Capcom have finally announced the next instalment in the famous Mega Man series with Mega Man 11 for current-gen consoles and PC.
The Mega Man games follow the eponymous Mega Man, who typically fights through themed levels and fights a number of Robot Masters (read: boss fights) and gain their powers to use against other bosses. The series was introduced all the way back in 1987, and the games have been highly influential in game design over the years.
Notably, this new instalment appears to be ditching the retro-inspired pixel art used in previous mainline Mega Man games, in favour of a more 2.5D style reminiscent of 2016’s Mighty No. 9 – a game that was clearly inspired by the Mega Man series. However, from the trailer it would appear that the gameplay itself is staying true to the Blue Bomber’s signature mix of 2D platforming and boss fights.
The announcement of a new Mega Man game follows the news of the two Mega Man Legacy collections coming to Nintendo Switch with Amiibo support next year, giving all gamers a chance to catch up on every numbered Mega Man game before the release of Mega Man 11 in late 2018.
